Shanghai Kiss

One of my favorite films from Bigfoot is Shanghai Kiss, starring Ken Leung (Saw, X-Men, Lost). The story creates romance between a wannabe actor in LA (named Liam Liu) and a teeny-bopper blonde highschooler named Adelaide. Liam is not only going through a self-discovery of his manhood through his relationship, but a discovery of his own culture as he ventures to China to receive a house as inheritance from his recently-deceased grandmother. A romance Liam encounters overseas shakes up his unconventional love back home. All the while, the film pokes fun at the Chinese American who doesn't know a word of Chinese. It's good fun, and a beautiful story especially once Liam embraces who he is and begins to live.

Below is a scene where our protagonist is kidnapped and threatened in China. It's more humorous than scary:

*Hayden Panettiere won the Feature Film Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival for her role as Adelaide
